M 130

The M 130 is a dynamic microphone built around two thin pure aluminium ribbons placed very close together. It has a true figure-eight polar pattern, so it picks up sound equally from front and back while rejecting sound arriving from the sides. The stated frequency response is 40–18,000 Hz.

Typical uses include drums, electric guitar amps, pianos, acoustic guitars, orchestras, choirs and room ambience. The figure-eight pattern lends itself to Blumlein stereo pairs using two M 130 units, and to mid/side recording when combined with a hypercardioid or supercardioid mic such as the M 160 or the MC 950 condenser. The microphone is compact at 12.8 cm long and 150 g, and is described as robust for a ribbon design.

Each unit is assembled by hand and individually measured, with a printout of its measurement curve supplied. It connects through a 3-pin XLR output and comes in a hard case. Most parts can be replaced under the maker's service policy.
