The Tone Job combines a three-band active equaliser with a clean boost in one small pedal. Its tone controls are modelled on the options found in vintage audiophile stereo preamps. Bass, mid and treble each give up to 20 dB of cut or boost, and the controls interact, so one setting changes the response of the others.
The Level knob sits after the EQ and can raise the signal up to five times the input, with unity gain at about 10 o'clock. Treble works from roughly 2 kHz upward and bass from roughly 500 Hz downward. The middle control is an adjustable resonant filter centred around 1 kHz. Treble and bass response depend on where the middle control is set. Each tone knob has a centre detent that marks the flat position.
The pedal can go at the start of a chain to change the overall character of an instrument, or at the end to lift output after a long cable run. It also works with bass, drum machines and synths. It is true bypass with electronic relay switching, so no audio passes when the pedal is unpowered. It runs from a 9-18 V DC supply with a 2.1 mm negative-centre barrel connector.
