The Clarett 2Pre USB is the smallest model in the Clarett USB range. It offers two combi inputs that accept microphone, line and instrument signals, four line outputs and a headphone output, with converters running at up to 24-bit/192kHz and a stated dynamic range of 119dB.
The preamps include an Air mode with impedance switching, intended to add high-frequency detail and colour to microphones by emulating the transformer-based ISA mic pre. ADAT connectivity lets the channel count grow by adding an eight-channel preamp such as the Clarett OctoPre for larger sessions.
The interface connects to Mac and PC over USB and can be bus-powered from a computer port that supplies 15W over USB-C. Routing, cue mixes and monitor mixes are handled in Focusrite Control, which runs on Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. A bundle of plug-ins and Ableton Live Lite comes with registration, and the hardware has a three-year warranty.
