A 50-watt, all-valve, two-channel guitar amplifier head from Marshall's Vintage Reissue range, built in the UK. It recreates 1970s plexi-style tones and adds an FX loop, and is aimed at guitarists who want classic overdrive and clean sounds.

The 1987X is a 50W valve head that reproduces the classic plexi sound of the 1970s, from clean tones through to crunch and overdrive. Unlike the original 1987, it offers two bridgeable channels and a series effects loop that can be switched on or off. The power section uses two EL34 valves, and the preamp uses ECC83 valves, including one as the phase splitter.
Tone is shaped with Normal/Loudness II and High Treble/Loudness I controls, plus Treble, Middle, Bass and Presence. Four 1/4" instrument inputs with high and low sensitivity are fitted. Two 1/4" speaker outputs can be set to a 16Ω, 8Ω or 4Ω load.
The head is built at Marshall's factory in Bletchley, England, in black. A detachable power cable and a speaker cable are supplied. Its enclosure measures 660 mm wide and weighs 15.3 kg.
