The Elicit-R is a stereo integrated amplifier built around power amplifier circuits derived from the Brio-R. Its output stage uses a low-source-impedance emulated Class A driver based on a complementary pair of Darlington output transistors. Line-level preamplification uses discrete FET circuits, and volume is set by a programmable stepped attenuator. Polypropylene capacitors are used throughout the signal path.
Input 1 combines a moving magnet phono stage with a line input, selected by a switch on the rear panel. In line mode the input is configured for extra isolation and lower noise, which suits an external MM or MC phono stage, a CD player or a DAC. Rated output is 105 W per channel into 8 ohms, rising to 162 W into 4 ohms.
The amplifier ships with the Solaris system remote handset, which also controls the other products in the maker's R-series electronics. The design performs best when warm, so the unit should reach operating temperature before critical listening. It was named best stereo amp at the 2014 What Hi-Fi? Awards.
