The unit provides eight XLR/TRS combination inputs, each feeding a digitally controlled preamp with its own phantom power, low-cut filter, phase invert and digital compression. An AUTO-SENS function sets the recording level on every input automatically after a button press while the instruments are played, which suits sessions with a fully miked drum kit or a whole band.
Audio reaches the computer over USB 2.0 through a proprietary low-latency streaming driver, with ASIO 2.0/WDM on Windows and Core Audio on Mac. Two units, or one unit alongside a V-STUDIO 100 or V-STUDIO 700, can share the same USB bus. Four independent software-controlled Direct Mixers use internal 40-bit DSP and can be routed to any analog output, for example to build separate headphone or speaker monitor mixes.
Outputs include eight balanced 1/4 inch TRS jacks and a stereo headphone jack. Coaxial digital input and output and MIDI In/Out are also fitted. The interface runs from an AC adaptor and ships with rack-mount angles.
