The VP83 LensHopper is a small shotgun condenser microphone designed to sit on top of a DSLR camera or HD camcorder. Its supercardioid/lobar polar pattern favours sound from in front of the camera and rejects off-axis noise, while high sensitivity, low self-noise and a wide frequency range aim for natural-sounding recordings. The microphone is also built to resist interference from cellular and other RF devices.
Controls are on the back of the body for quick changes while shooting. A three-position gain switch offers a -10 dB pad, 0 dB, or +20 dB boost, and a low-cut filter reduces background noise and room ambience. A Rycote Lyre shock mounting system, developed for this model, is integrated to isolate the capsule from vibration and handling noise.
The body is all-metal yet light. Optional accessories listed for the model include the A83-FUR Windjammer and the A83W foam windscreen. Related models include the VP83F, which adds flash recording.
