The Space 87 is a pressure-gradient condenser microphone with a shock-mounted capsule, built around the well-known '87-style' studio sound. It offers three selectable polar patterns (cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8) and is used for vocals, speech, acoustic guitar, piano, strings, brass and drums.
A -10 dB pad and a low-cut switch are fitted, as on the original design it follows. Internally it uses WIMA capacitors, Fairchild resistors and a Cinemag transformer, and the electroplated all-metal body is also said to help lower self-noise. Self-noise is rated at 23 dB (cardioid) and maximum SPL at 127 dB with the pad engaged.
The microphone connects through a balanced XLR 3 F connector and runs on 48 V phantom power (P48) with a current draw of 0.8 mA. It ships with a shock mount, a magnetic pop filter and a metal storage case, along with a quickstart guide.
