The AX-Synth is a strap-on remote keyboard with a 49-key velocity-sensitive keyboard and an onboard sound engine. It offers 128-voice polyphony and 256 tones plus 8 special tones, including SuperNATURAL sounds, with voices drawn from Roland's newer synthesizers. No external MIDI gear is needed to play it.
Performance control comes from a ribbon controller, a D Beam, a modulation bar, and dedicated knobs for volume and aftertouch. Portamento and hold buttons are provided, along with a bender mode with Normal and Catch+Last settings. A dedicated V-LINK button handles video and visual control, and a three-digit LED display is meant to be readable on stage.
The unit has two 1/4-inch outputs (L/MONO and R), a stereo headphone jack, a foot pedal input, MIDI IN/OUT and a USB MIDI port for connecting to a computer. A PC/Mac editor and librarian application can be used to customize sounds. It runs on eight Ni-MH rechargeable batteries for roughly six hours, or from the supplied AC adaptor.
