The 202mkIII combines two twin-head cassette decks in a rack-mount chassis. Each deck can be used on its own, or both can work together for recording and playback, which makes it practical for tape duplication and for looping playback over long periods.
Recording can be made on both sides of a tape at the same time. Dolby B and C noise reduction is fitted, along with HX Pro headroom extension. Dubbing runs at normal or high speed, and a fine tune bias control and automatic tape selection help match different tape types. Transport is handled by a two-motor IC logic control system, and an electronic digital tape counter and computerized program search speed up editing.
Connections are unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs. The unit measures 482 x 144 x 286 mm (19" x 5.7" x 11.2") and weighs 4.8 kg (10.6 lbs). It has been discontinued and replaced by the 202MKVII.
