The TM 1600 is a two-track (half-track) quarter-inch tape machine that plays reels up to 10.5" at 19 or 38 cm/s. It uses three motors and a newly developed tape path geometry. CCIR equalization, common for European recordings, and NAB equalization, used for American and Asian recordings, can be selected. An edit function allows single-handed operation.
The drive was developed with Ballfinger and is very compact, only 50 mm high, which gives more freedom in how the machine is built into a setup. The head motor and capstan motor sit far apart from each other, a layout intended to give a very high signal-to-noise ratio. A real-time digital counter shows hours, minutes, seconds and hundredths of a second.
The power supply is external, which reduces interference in the machine. Wall mounting is available as an option. A datasheet is offered for download from the maker.
